About our sessions
My art therapy sessions offer a welcoming space for creative conversation with a therapeutic focus. To participate, no artistic experience or skills are required.
In a session, we use art making as a way of exploring particular topics. As your art therapist, I suggest tasks and offer questions and suggestions. We slow down and become present to what’s happening as you create and talk about the imagery, ideas, emotions, sensations, and meanings that emerge.
Working creatively has the ability to draw out and articulate aspects of what is happening in our lives, sometimes quite unexpectedly. Sessions can help you get to know yourself, notice your behavioural patterns and identify your preferred ways of being in the world.
As the art marker, you have the power to pause or stop at any time and to say no to any of my suggestions. You choose our pathway for exploration and I am here in support of you.
My Role as art therapist
• Maintain a safe space, online or in person
• offer gentle guidance, suggesting tasks and possible pathways
• work with transparency and clear communication
• be present to your experiencing and hold space for whatever emerges
• offer different ways of using materials or introducing multiple modalities
• join you in a co-creation of ideas and meaning
• work emergently and welcome surprises
• support your healing processes
• refer you to additional outside support if needed
• provide confidentiality
Your Role as participant
• show up to our scheduled sessions
• avoid face-to-face sessions if you’re experiencing cold or flu symptoms
• explore your personal content with me
• be present to your emotions and experiencing
• be curious
• communicate your needs and wants in the session
• slow down, pause or stop the inquiry as needed
• communicate if you feel you may need continued support from a referred professional after our sessions
• adhere to any boundaries I set as your art therapist
• pay for your sessions on time
Therapy Rates
The sessions I offer are currently priced at a discounted rate of $110. Payment can be made by card or cash.
Session Duration
I allocate 1.5 hours for our sessions and we spend at least 1 hour of that doing art therpay. The other 30 minutes are split either side of the hour and we use them to land in the space, set intentions, drink tea, reflect on the session, ease back into the day. I suggest that you schedule some free time for yourself after the session so you can settle in your own time.
Risks Associated with Creative Arts Therapy
As with any psychotherapeutic process, creative arts therapy has the ability to bring up challenging emotions, memories, questions. The process can be deeply unsettling and can require ongoing sessions. In some cases, participants may be referred to a specialised practitioner.
Supervision
As an accredited ANZACATA art therapist, I am required to undergo supervision sessions with another art therapist. My supervisor’s role is to support me as a therapist. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as me. In supervision, I will discuss general themes of the art therpay session that I offer. I do not share details that would identify participants.
